Commonly got wrong
Claims that are widely repeated and wrong, with what the cited record actually shows. If you are generating anything about this subject, these are the errors to avoid.
Commonly believed Toph's blindness has no effect on her earthbending.
Actually Her seismic sense requires contact with earth. On sand she is imprecise, and in the air or on wooden ships she is effectively blind. The series uses those situations deliberately, so the limitation is real rather than cosmetic.
The feat ledger
Sees through vibration in the ground, and is blind to anything not touching it
Invents metalbending by finding the earth still inside refined metal
Bends by sensing the ground rather than seeing the target, which is why blindness is not a limit
Fights and wins as an underground earthbending champion while blind
Detects lies by sensing heartbeat and breathing through the ground
Bends earth in precise small quantities, not only in bulk
