Teleportation
Also called Instant Transmission, Blink, Apportation
Teleportation is instantaneous relocation without crossing the intervening space. The variable that matters is targeting: users who need line of sight are tactical, users who need a pre-placed marker are strategic, and users who can lock onto a signature anywhere are effectively unbeatable in a chase.
How it works
Three targeting models, in ascending order of power.
Line of sight. Nightcrawler teleports where he can see or knows well, and teleporting blind is written as genuinely dangerous. This keeps the power tactical — brilliant in a fight, useless for crossing a continent.
Marked point. Minato's Flying Thunder God requires a seal placed in advance. Preparation converts into instantaneous movement, which is why he is described as the fastest shinobi despite not being especially fast.
Signature lock. Goku's Instant Transmission locates a ki signature and moves to it, at interplanetary range. There is no meaningful escape from this, which is why the technique is usually constrained by requiring a signature to sense.
The recurring danger is what happens on arrival. Settings that take teleportation seriously address telefragging, conservation of momentum, and whether the user can bring passengers or cargo — Nightcrawler's carrying capacity is a real, stated limit rather than a footnote.
How it scales
- Short-range blink
Line-of-sight hops. Combat mobility.
- Marked
Instantaneous return to prepared points. Requires setup.
- Long-range
Continental or planetary jumps without a marker.
- Signature lock
Locates a target anywhere and arrives instantly. Interstellar range.
Who has teleportation
Across 4 universes. This list crosses publishers — something no single wiki can do, because every franchise keeps its own separate database.

The feat ledger
Every entry cites the work it comes from. Feat means it was shown in the work; Statement means a character or narrator said it. Nothing here is a fan estimate unless it is tagged Calc.
Nightcrawler — Teleporting blind risks materialising inside solid matter, so his range is bounded by sight and familiarity
Goku — Instant Transmission locates a ki signature and relocates him to it at interplanetary range
Minato Namikaze — Flying Thunder God requires a seal placed in advance, converting preparation into instantaneous movement
Raven — Teleports through her soul-self, the same mechanic that carries her telekinesis and empathy
Hiro Nakamura — Teleportation and time travel are a single space-time ability that degrades when he loses confidence
Doctor Strange — Opens portals between fixed points using the Sling Ring rather than an innate ability
Goku — Instant Transmission moves him to any energy signature he can sense
Doctor Strange — Sling Ring portals connect any two points he has seen
Darkseid — Uses Boom Tubes to cross between worlds instantly
Saiki Kusuo — Travels anywhere instantly, used mostly to avoid social contact
Raven — Travels by soul-self, a projected form rather than a portal
Raven — Carries the whole team through a single transit
Obito Uchiha — Transports himself and others into a separate pocket dimension
Obito Uchiha — Absorbs incoming attacks into the dimension rather than dodging them
Obito Uchiha — Arrives and leaves mid-battle without any approach being detected
Cloak — Travels by stepping through the Darkforce and emerging elsewhere
Cloak — Carries other people through the dimension with him
Minato Namikaze — Flying Thunder God moves him instantly to a marker he placed earlier
Minato Namikaze — Redirects an incoming attack by teleporting it elsewhere rather than blocking it
Hiro Nakamura — Travels across the world instantly, and across years as the same ability
Mister Mxyzptlk — Travels between the fifth dimension and Earth at will
Mister Mxyzptlk — Cannot return for a stated interval after being banished
Nightcrawler — Teleports in a burst of displaced air and brimstone
Nightcrawler — Must be able to see or clearly recall the destination, the stated constraint
Nightcrawler — Carries several people at once, at significant physical cost
Nightcrawler — Chains rapid teleports through a fight, his signature combat style
Trafalgar D. Water Law — ROOM creates a sphere inside which he can swap the position of anything
Trafalgar D. Water Law — The sphere must be established first, which is the window to stop him
Trafalgar D. Water Law — Range and stamina both limit the sphere, the standing constraints
Zatanna — Moves herself and others across distance instantly
Zatanna — Opens passages between dimensions rather than only across space
Zatanna — Banishes a target to another dimension outright
Rukia Kuchiki — Flash step movement across a battlefield
Rukia Kuchiki — Opens passages between the human world and Soul Society
Limits
- Blind teleportation risks materialising inside solid matter.
- Carrying passengers is costly and capacity-limited for most users.
- Marked systems require preparation the opponent can destroy.
- Signature-lock systems require a signature to sense — mask it and the power fails.
Counters
- Dimensional or spatial locks, common in magic systems.
- Suppressing the signature the user targets.
- Attacking during the arrival beat, which most systems make brief but non-zero.
Questions
Is Instant Transmission faster than light?
It is not travel at all, so speed does not apply. Goku locates a ki signature and relocates to it without crossing the intervening distance, which is why it works at interplanetary range and why sensing the target is the actual constraint.
