Savage Beastfly is the optional boss fight in Hollow Knight: Silksong that spawned its own hate-subreddit, and the fix is almost entirely about positioning rather than reflexes. It’s found in the Chapel of the Beast in Hunter’s March (Drifter’s Cloak required), with a second encounter in Far Fields after you clear the first. Current as of patch 1.0.30000, October 2026.

Where to Find Savage Beastfly

The first Savage Beastfly waits in the Chapel of the Beast, tucked into the bottom-right corner of Hunter’s March. You need the Drifter’s Cloak traversal ability to reach it. Beat that fight and a Grand Hunt wish becomes available on the Bellhart Wish Board for a second Savage Beastfly, this one in Far Fields, in the same spot where Fourth Chorus spawns earlier in the game.

Why This Fight Earned a Subreddit

Savage Beastfly throws a two-mask hit per contact, drags flying bugs into the arena that can trap you mid-air, and — in the Far Fields rematch — adds breakable floor tiles over open space to the mix. Enough players got wrecked by it that a subreddit dedicated to the boss exists purely to vent about the fight, a level of community reaction most Silksong bosses never get.

Attack Patterns and How to Answer Each One

Here’s the breakdown, built on top of the pattern analysis TheGamer and other strategy guides converged on after players started comparing notes:

Attack What It Looks Like How to Punish It
Soaring Charge (low) Beastfly dives straight at you close to the ground Jump over it and strike in mid-air as it passes underneath
Soaring Charge (high) Beastfly dives from a steep upper angle Stay grounded, let it pass, punish once the dive clears
Ground Pound Combo Beastfly hovers vertically near the top of the arena, then slams down up to three times in a row Stand roughly two Hornets back from the landing point and swipe each time it hits the ground
Downward Dive Beastfly floats above you, head pointed down, and strikes downward up to three times if you stay close Back off after the first strike instead of trading hits
Savage Beastfly attack patterns, Chapel of the Beast and Far Fields encounters
Hornet, protagonist of Hollow Knight Silksong
Hornet’s tool and Crest choices going into this fight matter more than raw reflexes.

The Loadout That Makes This Fight Fair

The Reaper Crest is the single biggest swing available here: its silk-generation passive keeps your healing topped up after binding, and its longer-reaching strikes let you land the ground-pound punish windows without closing as much distance. If the flying adds during the slam attack are a problem, you can kite them toward you deliberately and let the boss’s own slam clear them out, rather than trying to dodge both threats separately. We cover crest selection in more depth in our Silksong tools ranking and our crest build guide.

If You’re Still Stuck

Fight the Chapel of the Beast version first before touching the Far Fields rematch — the floor hazards in the second fight make the exact same attack patterns meaningfully harder to read. If you’ve already cleared Silksong’s true final fight, our Lost Lace guide covers a fight that demands the same positioning discipline at a much higher difficulty ceiling.

For scale: Hollow Knight: Silksong sold more than 7 million copies in its first three months after its September 4, 2025 launch, not counting Xbox Game Pass access, which is part of why a single optional boss generating its own subreddit became a story in the first place.
