Pokemon Card Market Report – Which Sets Are Holding Value

Across the 45 days we have been recording prices, vintage WOTC-era Pokemon sets have held value better than modern ones — +1.5% on average against -6.1%. The strongest set in the window was Jungle (+19.3%); the weakest was Neo Genesis (-18.6%). Based on 175 chase cards across 17 sets, priced daily.

Read this as early data, not a trend. 45 days is a short window — long enough to show what has happened since we started, nowhere near long enough to call a market direction. We publish it because the series is ours and it grows every day, and we would rather show a short honest record than a confident guess. Come back as the window lengthens.

“Set value” is the combined market price of the chase cards we track from that set, not a complete set. Comparing the same basket day to day is what makes the change column meaningful.

How this is measured

We query the TCGplayer market price for every tracked card once a day and append it to our own price history. Market price is the level completed sales cluster around, not a seller asking price, and all figures are for raw ungraded copies. A set only appears here once we have at least 4 cards and 7 days for it, so a set can be tracked without yet being comparable. When a source is unreachable we record nothing for that day rather than carrying the previous value forward, so a flat line is a flat market and not a gap in collection.
