The Professor X situation is the murkiest. Here’s the detail worth sitting with. Marvel had a Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25 — the single largest fan audience of the year, free to anyone in the room, covered live by every outlet on the floor. It announced Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3 there. It did not announce the X-Men cast, despite reportedly having at least two or three actors effectively locked at the time.
Three weeks later, that reveal is expected at a Disney-owned event, inside a venue gated behind a paid upgrade tier, with footage that reportedly won’t go online immediately.
That’s a choice, and it tells you how Disney is valuing the X-Men relaunch. Comic-Con generates goodwill; D23 generates ticket sales, Disney+ signups and a news cycle Disney controls end to end. A studio that thought of the X-Men cast as fan-service would have spent it in Hall H. A studio that thinks of it as a corporate asset spends it at its own event. Marvel is doing the second thing.
