The latest trailer for Sony Pictures’ Venom: Let There Be Carnage came out guns blazing and gave a lot more details than we previously had. There are some fast-paced scenes in the trailer that are easy to miss if you even blink, fret not; we are here to dissect the trailer just like Carnage is going to dissect people in the movie.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a direct sequel to the 2018 Venom that was a critical and commercially successful success. Fans loved Tom Hardy’s portrayal of the iconic comic book character Eddie Brock. Personally, I loved how the movie shied away from doing any gratuitous superior scenes like the main character taking their shirt off (looking at you Capt. America). The film showed Eddie Brock in evident distress throughout the movie, as one would be when an alien being is inside you.

There were quite a few funny moments in the trailer, and a few of them landed really well, and a few didn’t. Of course, comedy is subjective, so you may find them funny. So I was pleasantly surprised to see the movie’s tone remain the same overall in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

The Carnage Reborn

There is a slight change to the Carnage origin story in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, it seems. In the comics, Cletus Kasady gets his powers while he shared a jail cell with Eddie Brock. Eddie broke out of his jail cell with the help of Venom symbiote and, in the process, dropped one of the offspring. The tiny Venom then gets into Cletus from a wound and transforms him into Carnage. In the trailer, we see him taking a bite out of Eddie’s hand and getting the powers this way. I think this slight change in his origin story fits well with the overall narrative of the movie series and doesn’t deviate too much.

The Ravencroft Institute

The Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane is quite famous in the comics and usually houses Spider-Man’s worst enemies. It’s the same place where they kept Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (the Andrew Garfield one).

We see Frances Barrison, also known as Shriek (played by Naomie Harris), in this Institute. She is a Spider-Man villain and the romantic interest of Cletus/Carnage. It seems that Carnage gets her out of the Ravencroft Institute. If you read the Maximum Carnage comic book storyline, then you’d know how vital Shriek is to the story. Hopefully, the creators of this adaptation also follow the comic book story closely because it is one of the best-written works in Spider-Man history.

This also opens the door to more Spider-Man villains being shown inside the Institute that is specifically designed to hold them. Hopefully, we’ll see some good Easter eggs at least.

Will There Be Carnage?

The trailer makes it no secret that yes, there is going to be some Carnage. Carnage brutally murders a security guard in the trailer as well, so there is no doubt there are going to be some great, chaotic scenes in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

However, most fans are worried that the movie is not R-rated, which is honestly a valid concern. Maximum Carnage was a graphic run in the comics, and many fans were hoping for a bloodier first outing for the live-action Carnage. Personally, I enjoy both types of comic book movies, and I think Woody Harrelson will do a remarkable job portraying Cletus Kasady in the film. From what I’ve seen, his role as the serial killer is chilling, and his performances are always enjoyable.

I’m hoping there will be a crossover with Spider-Man: No Way Home in some capacity; however, it is highly unlikely that Marvel would let that happen yet.

When Is Venom: Let There Be Carnage going to be released?

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to be released on October 15, 2021. There have been rumors that the movie might be delayed until 2022, further pushing Morbius down the year. We will be keeping an eye on official announcements and hoping that there are no further delays.
