The Kagurabachi anime cast grew by two on Friday, August 28, 2026, when the production announced Miku Itō as Hinao and Miyari Nemoto as Char Kyonagi through a pair of English-subtitled character trailers. Takeru Hokazono’s sword-revenge manga is set to premiere in April 2027 on Crunchyroll, animated at Cypic under director Tetsuya Takeuchi.

What Was Announced on August 28

Two new voice actors joined the Kagurabachi anime on August 28, 2026. Miku Itō plays Hinao, who owns Cafe Haru Haru and works as the information broker connecting clients with sorcerers. Miyari Nemoto plays Char Kyonagi, the girl being hunted at the story’s outset. Both reveals came packaged as individual character promotional videos with English subtitles, plus new character visuals.

The manga behind it has been running in Weekly Shonen Jump since September 2023 and had 4 million copies in circulation as of Anime News Network’s August 28 report. The anime’s first teaser trailer passed 6 million views inside 24 hours, per Anime Corner.

Why These Two Roles Signal a Chapter-One Start

Hinao and Char are not mid-story additions. Both characters make their manga debut in chapter 3, and both are billed on the Kagurabachi Wiki as figures in the Vs. Sojo arc — the manga’s opening storyline. Casting both of them before any later-arc antagonist is a straightforward signal that the adaptation intends to open where the manga opens, rather than compressing the first arc to reach a flashier fight sooner.

That matters more than it sounds. Recent Jump adaptations have gone both ways — some open on the source’s first page, others front-load a later set piece to hook a streaming audience in episode one. The order in which a production announces its cast is one of the few public tells available eight months out, and this one points at a faithful, sequential opening.

The Production Committee Is the Real Story

Kagurabachi is not going through the pipeline most Weekly Shonen Jump hits go through. Animation is at Cypic — the studio formerly known as CygamesPictures, which sits under the CyberAgent corporate umbrella — and the production committee pairs CyberAgent with Shochiku, a film company founded in 1895. That is an advertising-and-games conglomerate plus a legacy movie studio, rather than the Aniplex, TOHO animation or Shueisha-adjacent producers that have carried most of the magazine’s recent breakouts.

Pair that with the distribution shape — Crunchyroll streaming worldwide except Japan, mainland China, North Korea and South Korea — and the picture is of a title being built as a global streaming property first and a Japanese broadcast property second. It is a different bet from the usual late-night TV block plus international simulcast, and it is being placed on a series that is still only three years into serialisation. If it works, it is a template other publishers will copy; if it does not, the blame lands on a committee with no prior Jump flagship to its name.

For context on why Shueisha is experimenting at all, we looked at Weekly Shonen Jump’s circulation falling below one million earlier this month, and at where Kagurabachi sits among the contenders for the next Shonen Big Three.
