Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 just gave us our first look at its campaign. The 40-second “Campaign First Look,” titled “Stranded,” landed on PlayStation’s official channel on September 4, 2026. It drops the single-player story into North Korea ahead of the game’s October 23, 2026 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

It Opens With a Threat, Not a Firefight
No gunfire up front, just talk. The subtitles read “We are searching everywhere for them.” Then a man in a fur-lined coat, standing by a frozen lake, says “You have two days.” The line “or you can take their place” plays over cuts to a woman in a green military uniform and a close-up of a man in uniform.
That sounds like a hostage or prisoner-exchange threat, not a mission briefing, and it’s an unusual way to kick off a Modern Warfare campaign reveal.

Snow, Ridges and a Bunker Hatch
Then it switches to first-person gameplay. Operators push through deep snow toward a ridge. A sniper’s laser sight tracks into a bunker hatch. Quick shots of climbing a ledge, aiming across a compound and firing from a snowy ridge fly by, none longer than about two seconds.
It’s all mood and setting, with nothing on how missions are structured or how long they run.

Then Everything Blows Up
The back half goes big. A building erupts in smoke. A vehicle explodes up close. A helicopter blows apart over a mountain ridge. A missile arcs toward a satellite dish tower and hits it, and a damaged aircraft trails smoke as it falls out of frame.
The editing doesn’t make clear whether all of this happens in the “Stranded” mission or comes from elsewhere in the campaign.

What’s Actually New Here
This is the first campaign footage we’ve seen since its May 2026 announcement. It’s also the first confirmation that the campaign heads to North Korea, and our first look at the “Stranded” chapter name.
And opening on an ultimatum before a single shot is fired feels different from recent Modern Warfare reveals, which have tended to lead with action.
What We Still Don’t Know
We never see the player character in third person. Neither the man giving the ultimatum nor the woman in uniform gets a name. And there’s no multiplayer or Warzone here at all. Activision hasn’t said when multiplayer gets its own trailer.
