PlayStation’s September 2026 State of Play ran nearly two hours on September 3 as two back-to-back shows, delivering release dates for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Until Dawn 2, and Metro 2039, new reveals like Konami’s Rhapsody in Scarlet and Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, and a same-day PS5 launch for Double Fine’s Keeper.
Last updated September 3, 2026. This recap covers what actually aired; for the pre-show rundown of who was expected to appear, see our September 3 State of Play preview.

The Big Release Dates
Three previously undated PlayStation 5 games got firm launch days during the show. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final chapter of Square Enix’s Remake trilogy, launches April 8, 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Square Enix confirmed in its own release announcement. New gameplay showed Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine as playable party members, each built around a specialized combat uniform, open-world traversal by grappling gun, and chocobo companion Piko, who grows new traversal and combat abilities over the story. Square Enix describes the plot as Cloud and the party racing to stop Meteor as Sephiroth “nears godhood” — the villain’s presence in the story was confirmed, though the show itself did not include a new close-up reveal of his character model.
Until Dawn 2 is now dated for January 28, 2027, exclusively on PS5. Developer Firesprite, a PlayStation Studios team, showed a new trailer moving the choice-driven horror story to Blackwood Sanitorium and the tropical Akishima Island, with pre-orders opening September 10. Metro 2039 follows on February 4, 2027, launching day one on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store); developer 4A Games showed the first Metro gameplay built around PS5 Pro’s 4K60 ray tracing, following a new protagonist called The Stranger through a storm-wracked, post-apocalyptic Moscow.
PlayStation’s own recap of the two shows counted more than 30 games in total, per the official PlayStation Blog roundup, ranging from one-line teases to full gameplay deep dives. Those Until Dawn 2 pre-orders come with Dr. Hill-themed bonus content on both the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions, and the Deluxe tier adds a “Y2K Neon Vibes” cosmetic pack.
Insomniac Games also aired a launch trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine ahead of its already-confirmed September 15 PS5 release — we cover that trailer shot by shot in a separate breakdown, so this recap keeps it to one line: Sabretooth, Jean Grey, Lady Deathstrike, Mystique, and the Sentinels all appear.

New Games Revealed
Konami used the show to unveil Rhapsody in Scarlet, a new action-adventure set in a jazz-soundtracked, Prohibition-era 1920s New York. Players control Ellie Myers, a young magus pursuing a singing career who gets pulled into a conflict with a magical organization called the Seekers; combat blends Ellie’s own magic with attacks from beast companions. “We’re thrilled to have revealed Rhapsody in Scarlet, a brand-new action game for PlayStation 5,” said Takanori Murayama, the game’s co-producer at Konami Digital Entertainment. It’s confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though Konami has not announced a release date.
Tripwire Interactive and Demiurge Studios announced Maneater 2, the follow-up to 2020’s shark-rampage game, for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. It’s rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and set in Neptune’s Kingdom, an ultra-luxury private island resort, with a new escape mechanic and an expanded prey list including groupers and massive crabs.
PlayStation and LEGO also revealed the first official LEGO PlayStation set: a 1,911-piece, near-1:1-scale original PS1 console with a brick-built version of the console’s original controller and two removable dioramas themed around Gran Turismo and Ape Escape. It costs $179.99, with LEGO Insiders getting early access October 1, 2026 and general availability following October 4.

The State of Play Japan Segment
A second, Japan-focused show followed immediately after the main broadcast, hosted by voice actor Yuki Kaji, and it’s where most of the anime-adjacent news landed. Bandai Namco announced Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2027, built around a customizable player character and reportedly including a new original character designed by the late Akira Toriyama. Konami followed its main-show reveal with a second RPG, Rev. NOiR, confirmed for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC; it follows a boy named Asch and a companion, Finé, through a catastrophic phenomenon called “lightfall” that appears to rewind and reshape events as the story progresses.
Bandai Namco also went deeper on Gundam Rogue Orbit, confirming a March 5, 2027 PS5 release and letting producer Yuya Tomiyama detail a faithful, pilotable RX-78-2 Gundam — we go shot by shot through that reveal in a dedicated trailer breakdown. Elsewhere in the Japan segment, Sword Art Online got a new winter 2026 DLC chapter, “Echoes of Aincrad,” adding a new curved-sword weapon type, and The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes was confirmed as the light-novel series’ first console game.
Capcom used the Japan segment to detail Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a 2027 expansion for the multiplatform hit that adds a new area called Skybound Eyrie above the clouds, a new combo-enhancing mechanic called Boost Drivers, and new monsters including the storm-controlling Elder Dragon Gundoraja and a pack-hunting Bird Wyvern called Araketa. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto confirmed a playable demo at Tokyo Game Show 2026 later this month. Digimon Story Time Stranger and Fate/Extra Record also got expansion and remake news respectively, with Fate/Extra Record — a remake of the PSP-era Moon Holy Grail War RPG, now published by Aniplex — dated for PS5, PS4, Switch, Switch 2, and PC on January 28, 2027.

Updates to Games You Already Own
Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei was featured again rather than newly announced — Sony first detailed the Complete Edition, the “Echoes of Sekigahara” narrative expansion, and a free “Most Wanted” combat-survival mode in an August 12, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, and the show simply reconfirmed all three are launching together October 1, 2026. Echoes of Sekigahara expands protagonist Atsu’s story with flashbacks to a previously unseen valley, while Most Wanted is a single-player bounty-hunting mode that unlocks additional playable characters. Existing owners can buy the upgrade separately for $14.99. The original Ghost of Yōtei has sold strongly since its October 2, 2025 launch: Sony told investors on its Q2 FY2025 earnings call, reported by TechRadar in early November 2025, that the game topped 3.3 million units sold in its first month on sale.
Gran Turismo 7 is getting a free “Spec IV” update split into two releases, one in October and one in December, adding two circuits (the Japanese SUGO course and the returning Autumn Ring), 12 new cars, Online Drift Trials, Shuffle Races, and a December-only Family Mode. “As we look ahead to the 30th anniversary of the original release of Gran Turismo in 2027, we are preparing a free Spec IV update for Gran Turismo 7 to kick off the celebrations with our players,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, President of Polyphony Digital. Housemarque’s SAROS is also getting a free update, called “Zenith,” later in 2026, adding a boss-rush mode called Overlord Rush, a New Game Plus mode called Eclipse Layers, and accessibility options including gyro aiming and a slow-game-speed toggle.
The clearest same-day surprise of the show wasn’t an update at all: Double Fine’s Keeper, a wordless adventure about a sentient, walking lighthouse, shadow-launched on PS5 the moment the broadcast ended. Keeper originally released October 17, 2025 as a day-one Xbox Game Pass title published by Xbox Game Studios; its PS5 arrival ends that console exclusivity and drops the price from $30 to $20, alongside a new “Psychedelic Mode.”
