What Arcs Does Demon Slayer: Hinokami Chronicles 2 Cover?

The Demon Slayer: Hinokami Chronicles 2 arcs in Story Mode are the Entertainment District Arc, the Swordsmith Village Arc and the Hashira Training Arc — anime seasons two, three and four. The campaign begins after Mugen Train and ends before the Infinity Castle, which appears only as paid Versus Mode characters.

Mild spoiler note: this guide names the arcs, bosses and DLC fighters the game covers, including characters drawn from the Infinity Castle film. It does not describe how any fight ends.

That one-line answer hides the detail most people actually want, which is where the game stops relative to the films. Below is every arc, what each one adapts, how long the campaign runs, and exactly how the Infinity Castle content works — because it exists, but not where you would expect.

Every Demon Slayer: Hinokami Chronicles 2 arc in Story Mode

SEGA’s official game modes page states that Story Mode covers "The Entertainment District, Swordsmith Village, and Hashira Training Arcs." Those map cleanly onto three consecutive anime seasons:

Story Mode arc Anime season Picks up from Main demon opposition
Entertainment District Arc Season 2 Mugen Train Upper Rank Six: Daki and Gyutaro
Swordsmith Village Arc Season 3 Entertainment District Upper Rank Four and Five: Hantengu and Gyokko
Hashira Training Arc Season 4 Swordsmith Village No Upper Rank boss; training-focused
Arc coverage per SEGA’s official game modes page. Season numbering follows the anime broadcast order.

If you are unsure how those seasons sit against the films, our Demon Slayer watch order lays out the full sequence.

Entertainment District Arc: where the story starts

This is the single most important thing to understand before buying: Hinokami Chronicles 2 does not retell the series from the start. It opens after the events of Mugen Train, because the first game already adapted season one and the Mugen Train film.

So the sequel begins with Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke going undercover in the Yoshiwara entertainment district alongside the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, and builds to the fight against the Upper Rank Six siblings. Newcomers starting here are dropped in with no recap of Nezuko’s condition or the Corps’ structure.

Swordsmith Village Arc: the mid-game

The middle stretch takes Tanjiro to the hidden village that forges the Corps’ blades, and introduces two more Hashira as playable fighters: the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and the Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito. It carries the widest spread of boss encounters of the three, since Hantengu splits into multiple bodies.

It is also the section that best suits the game’s structure. CyberConnect2’s format alternates cutscenes, light exploration and one-on-one boss battles, and an arc built around several simultaneous fights in one location gives that loop more to work with than a training camp does.

Hashira Training Arc: the shortest of the three

The final campaign arc is the thinnest, and reviewers said so at launch. TheGamer’s review of Hinokami Chronicles 2 called it "the shortest of the three and a bit more of a tease than anything else", and judged the three arcs "a little imbalanced, with the Hashira Training acting as more of a setup for everything big that’s coming in the future."

That is the anime’s setup season doing what setup seasons do — the Corps preparing for a final confrontation rather than fighting one — so it delivers fewer marquee boss fights than the two arcs before it.

That structural shortfall is not really the game’s doing. It is inherited from the source, and it is the direct reason the campaign ends where it does.

Why the story stops before the Infinity Castle

Here is the part no storefront description makes clear. Hinokami Chronicles 2’s campaign ends at precisely the point where the Infinity Castle film trilogy begins. The Hashira Training Arc is the last stretch of story before the Corps falls into Muzan’s castle, and the game closes the book there.

That is not a gap in the adaptation. It is a hand-off. The Infinity Castle arc was adapted as a cinema trilogy rather than a television season, so a game built on the anime’s broadcast seasons had a hard ceiling designed into it from the start. Read the two together and the game covers seasons two through four while the Infinity Castle film takes the next stretch — they are complementary halves, not competing versions of the same material.

It also explains why the paid roster looks the way it does.

The Infinity Castle content is real — but it is not in Story Mode

Ask whether the game has the Infinity Castle and the honest answer is yes and no. The arc is absent from the campaign, but its cast was added to Versus Mode across a seven-character run of DLC named, explicitly, the Infinity Castle – Part 1 Character Pass.

Character Added How you get it
Muzan Kibutsuji 18 September 2025 Free update, all platforms
Kaigaku 30 October 2025 Infinity Castle – Part 1 Character Pass
Zenitsu Agatsuma (Infinity Castle) 2 December 2025 Character Pass
Akaza (Infinity Castle) 19 December 2025 Character Pass
Tanjiro Kamado (Infinity Castle) 13 February 2026 Character Pass
Giyu Tomioka (Infinity Castle) 11 March 2026 Character Pass
Shinobu Kocho (Infinity Castle) 17 April 2026 Character Pass
Doma 28 May 2026 Character Pass (final character)
Muzan’s free update per Gematsu, 18 September 2025. Pass line-up and dates per Anime News Network, 18 May 2026.

Two details are worth pulling out. Muzan arrived in a free update on 18 September 2025, not as a paid character — so the series’ final antagonist costs nothing. And the pass is labelled Part 1, matching the first Infinity Castle film. SEGA has not announced further passes, so treat additional ones as a reasonable expectation rather than a confirmed plan.

Anime News Network reported on 18 May 2026 that Doma closed out the pass as its seventh and final character.

Unlock keys are not DLC characters: what the Deluxe Edition actually buys

This is where edition comparisons routinely mislead people, and it is worth being precise. The store pages list two things that look alike and behave completely differently.

What it is Example What it actually does
Character Unlock Key Tengen Uzui, Obanai Iguro, Sanemi Shinazugawa, Gyomei Himejima (Deluxe Edition) The fighter is already in the base game. The key skips the normal unlock and makes them playable straight away.
DLC character The seven Infinity Castle Character Pass fighters Genuinely additional content that is not in the base game and cannot be earned by playing.
Edition contents per the PlayStation Store listing, checked August 2026.

So the Deluxe Edition does not add four Hashira to the roster. Those Hashira are already there, and ordinary play unlocks them. What you are buying is immediacy. That may still be worth it if you mostly play local Versus and want the full Hashira line-up on night one — but it is a convenience purchase, not extra characters, and the Infinity Castle pass is the opposite.

If you want to know which Hashira are worth unlocking first, our guide to the Demon Slayer breathing styles covers what each of them actually does.

Platforms, editions and the Nintendo Switch 2 version

SEGA’s official site lists the platforms exactly as "PlayStation 5 / PlayStation 4 / Nintendo Switch / Xbox Series X|S / Xbox One / Steam", with a release of 1 August 2025 and Steam following on 6 August 2025. The PlayStation Store lists 5 August 2025 for North America — the release was staggered by region.

A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is announced but not yet released. Anime News Network reported on 29 June 2026 that it arrives 29 October 2026 with a 60fps framerate, higher-quality visuals, and cross-play between the Switch and Switch 2 versions.

One wrinkle is worth checking before you buy twice. ANN reported that Switch owners can upgrade free, and that the free route does not include the separately sold Infinity Castle Character Pass. Gematsu’s same-day report instead described a planned Upgrade Pack with pricing unannounced. The two accounts do not fully agree, so confirm the upgrade terms on your own storefront at launch. Gematsu listed the Japanese physical edition, which does include the pass, at 7,810 yen.

As listed on the PlayStation Store in August 2026, the Standard Edition is $59.99 and the Deluxe Edition $69.99, with the Infinity Castle Character Pass at $29.99 and individual character packs at $4.99. Storefront pricing moves with sales, so treat those as a reference point rather than a fixed figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Demon Slayer: Hinokami Chronicles 2 have the Infinity Castle arc?

Not in Story Mode. The campaign ends with the Hashira Training Arc, immediately before the Infinity Castle. Seven Infinity Castle characters were added to Versus Mode through the paid Infinity Castle – Part 1 Character Pass, which completed with Doma on 28 May 2026.

How far does Hinokami Chronicles 2 go in the story?

It covers anime seasons two through four: the Entertainment District Arc, the Swordsmith Village Arc and the Hashira Training Arc. It starts after Mugen Train and stops before the Infinity Castle.

How long is the story mode?

TheGamer’s review described a roughly ten-hour campaign. Your own time will move around that depending on difficulty and how much of the optional exploration and side content you take on, so treat ten hours as the reference point for a straight run through the three arcs.

Do I need to play the first Hinokami Chronicles first?

Not mechanically, but the sequel assumes you know the story. The first game adapted season one and Mugen Train, and the sequel opens straight after those events with no recap.

Is Hinokami Chronicles 2 crossplay?

SEGA’s official site does not list cross-platform play for the original release. The only cross-play SEGA has announced is between the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions, arriving with the Switch 2 Edition on 29 October 2026.
