The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer came out guns blazing and mostly delivered what fans were expecting. After the unfortunate leak of the trailer, Sony decided to release it in its full high definition glory, finally putting an end to countless rumors and giving birth to new ones for the fans to focus on.

In short, the Spider-Man: No Way Home is a remarkable trailer that is sure to make you excited about the upcoming release in December. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, have a look at it and come back here, so we can discuss it in detail and hopefully discover together some new things they might have missed.

So don’t worry, I won’t be describing Peter’s recent troubles because we all saw the trailer and there is no point in discussing the major plot points. I’m only going to state the obvious if it develops into another matter of speculation for us fans. As a huge fan of Spider-Man, this breakdown will be filled with opinions, speculations, theories, and my hopes disguised as facts like a true nerd would do.

Was That Daredevil?

The trailer starts by showing us the aftermath of Spider-Man: Far from Home. In case you don’t recall, the 2nd Spider-Man movie ended with his real identity being exposed and him being framed for Mysterio’s death.

You can see him swinging around with MJ and also see him trying to hide from the world. I’m guessing he would hide first and then return to school later, as the trailer shows as well. Then there is J.K Simmons playing the iconic J. Jonah Jameson.

However, the first real question arises when we see Peter Parker in handcuffs in what seems like an interrogation room. Someone with a white shirt and a black tie slams a couple of files on the table, and while I am speculating, it does seem like the attire Matt Murdock would wear. I hope it is true and Charlie Cox returns for that role (he was excellent in Netflix’s Daredevil).

Why is Dr. Strange This Strange?

Peter visits Dr. Steven Strange at his Sanctum Sanctorum, which isn’t in great shape after Hulk smashed through the roof in Avengers Infinity War. That also explains why there would be a lot of snow inside, but why hasn’t Strange fixed it yet? He has a ton of powers to fix things, right?

But that’s not all; something seems a bit off about Steven here. He is not wearing his usual robes, which is understandable. He is probably enjoying time off after saving the universe; he did a decent amount of heavy lifting in the infinity saga.

“Dr. Strange” is being reckless, which we can chalk up to his usual arrogance, but he’s also a bit menacing and downright scary in upcoming scenes (especially the train one). Is it really Dr. Strange? We also see a protester holding a photo of Peter Parker, which featured devil horns drawn on the forehand. Is this a hint towards Mephisto? Or am I looking too deep here?

The Sinister 5?

So at the very end of the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, we see Alfred Molina’s Dr. Octopus return after 17 years. Of course, this is where every fan of Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy collectively lost it, including me. However, there are hints of other villains joining the party here, and maybe they’ll all be saying, “Hello Peter” in their introductory scenes.

We can easily spot a pumpkin bomb in the trailer, accompanied by William Defoe’s menacing laugh. We also see lightning and sand, which could be a hint towards Electro and Sandman. Furthermore, we also see a lizard jumping on a glass which would hand towards The Lizard, another doctor.

That comes in a total of 5 villains here, one short of making it the full Sinister 6. Will they be adding Big Wheel to the roster? I sure wish they would, but that’s probably not the case. This is, after all, a Sony/Marvel movie and not something James Gunn is directing.

So, what do you think about the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer? Do you believe the insane levels of hype right now would hurt the movie come Christmas, or are you optimistic that the film will deliver us Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield as well?
