James Gunn shut down a rumored Man of Tomorrow trailer release date on Thursday, October 30, denying a report that the first footage for his Superman sequel would debut in mid-December attached to Dune: Part Three. Gunn said flatly that no trailer is coming before the end of the year.

The writer-director made the denial on Threads after a fan account claimed a trailer was “expected” in December. “Expected by whom???” Gunn wrote, before adding: “More like James not wanting people to be disappointed when there’s no trailer in December,” according to ComingSoon.net and Dark Horizons, both of which covered the exchange Thursday and Friday.

Why Fans Expected a December Trailer

The rumor had a logical hook: Warner Bros.’ own Dune: Part Three opens December 18, 2026, the same day as Avengers: Doomsday, and studios routinely attach a tentpole’s first trailer to another studio’s biggest holiday release. Gunn’s own Superman playbook fed the expectation, too — its first trailer dropped in December 2024, seven months before the film’s July 2025 release. Man of Tomorrow is tracking on a similar sequel runway, which is exactly why a December reveal looked plausible before Gunn ruled it out.

Where Man of Tomorrow Actually Stands

The film wrapped filming in late August 2026 and is scheduled for July 9, 2027. David Corenswet returns as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, teaming up against Brainiac, played by German actor Lars Eidinger, in the android’s live-action debut. Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Isabela Merced and Aaron Pierre also return or join the cast. With filming finished, a first trailer was the next milestone fans were watching for — which is why Gunn’s denial made news on its own.

This is the third Man of Tomorrow rumor Gunn has personally shot down since September. He previously dismissed claims about secret characters appearing in the film, and in October denied a separate report tying the sequel to Batman and Supergirl casting. What Comes Next

Gunn hasn’t given a new target date, only ruling out 2026. Based on Superman’s own release rhythm, a trailer attached to a major winter or early-spring release — or simply dropping online, as several recent DC Studios trailers have — is the most likely path once Gunn does pull the trigger.
