Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is $3.5M From Passing Avengers: Endgame After a $39M Fourth Weekend

Spider-Man: Brand New Day took an estimated $39 million in its fourth weekend to reach $854.9 million in the United States and Canada. That leaves it $3.47 million short of Avengers: Endgame. It does not pass Endgame this weekend — but on its own weekday pace, it should within a day or two.

Sony reported the weekend estimates on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro published the Sunday write-through at 8:24 a.m. PT, and Deadline’s global report followed at 10:50 a.m. All figures below are studio estimates; Monday actuals routinely move them by a few hundred thousand dollars in either direction.

Where Spider-Man: Brand New Day now sits all-time

# Film Domestic lifetime
1 Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) $936,662,225
2 Avengers: Endgame (2019) $858,373,000
3 Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) $854,901,026
4 Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) $814,866,759
5 Avatar (2009) $785,221,649
Domestic lifetime grosses per Box Office Mojo, through Sunday 23 August 2026. Brand New Day’s figure is an estimate.

Third place was taken during the week. Brand New Day passed its own predecessor, No Way Home, and is now $40.0 million clear of it. The Force Awakens record at the top is another $81.8 million away — less than this film has taken across its last two weekends combined, so it is not out of reach, but it would need most of whatever run it has left.

It does not pass Endgame this weekend. Here is the arithmetic

This is worth being exact about, because a lot of headlines are phrased in a way that reads as though the record has already changed hands. It has not. $858,373,000 minus $854,901,026 is $3,471,974, and the weekend is over.

What closes that gap is Monday, and last week shows how fast. Deadline had the domestic cume at $786.5 million through Sunday 16 August and $815.9 million through Thursday 20 August — $29.4 million across four weekdays, an average of $7.35 million a day, with no weekend in it. The gap to Endgame is $3.47 million. Even allowing for another week of decline, a single weekday now covers it several times over.

So the pass should land on Monday 24 August. Treat that as our estimate rather than a confirmed date — Sunday figures are projections and a downward revision could push it to Tuesday — but the direction is not in doubt.

The record it may not get to keep

Here is the part almost nobody is pricing in. Endgame’s $858.4 million is not a fixed number. Marvel Studios is putting the film back in cinemas on 25 September 2026 as Avengers: Endgame Encore, a 185-minute cut — four minutes longer than the 2019 release — whose new footage is reported to be exclusive to IMAX and premium formats. It is timed to run ahead of Avengers: Doomsday in December.

A re-release adds to a film’s domestic lifetime gross. That is how Endgame got to $858.4 million in the first place — the 2019 figure includes its own reissue. So the second-place record Brand New Day is about to take is one Endgame can take back, four and a half weeks from now, without anyone selling another ticket to a new movie. We covered what is actually new in the Encore cut when it was announced at Comic-Con.

Whether it actually does depends on how big a lead Brand New Day builds first — it has those same four and a half weeks to keep adding, and a reissue earns a fraction of a first run. The point is narrower than a prediction: the No. 2 record is about to be taken, and it is one of the few records on that chart that can be taken back without anyone making a new film.

The shape of the run

Four weekends in, the curve is the story. These are the weekend grosses, not the cumulative totals:

Weekend Gross Theatres Running domestic
1 (31 Jul–2 Aug) $360.0M $360.0M
2 (7–9 Aug) $144.5M $655.1M
3 (14–16 Aug) $71.0M 4,539 $786.5M
4 (21–23 Aug) $39.0M 4,006 $854.9M
Weekend figures per Deadline and Box Office Mojo. Weekend 4 is an estimate.

The opening weekend is the all-time domestic record. The third weekend, $71 million, is the second-best third frame in domestic history behind The Force Awakens’ $90.2 million. But the table also shows what the milestone headlines skip: 59% of the $854.9 million arrived in the first two weekends, and the weekend is now a shrinking share of the take. The film went from $786.5 million to $854.9 million over the past seven days, and only $39 million of that $68.4 million came at the weekend.

For context on how unusual the top of this run was, we broke down the $145 million second weekend when it landed, and the film now sits near the top of our list of the highest-grossing superhero movies.

Worldwide: sixth all-time, and climbing

The global picture is further along than the domestic one. A fourth global weekend of $109 million took the worldwide total to $2.22 billion, sixth all-time, ahead of The Force Awakens’ $2.07 billion and behind Avatar, Endgame, The Way of Water, Ne Zha 2 and Titanic. Overseas alone is $1.365 billion, and the film is now Sony’s highest-grossing release ever in 56 international territories.

It reached $2 billion in 17 days, second-fastest ever behind Endgame’s 11. Which is the neat symmetry of this whole run: the film chasing Endgame’s domestic record is also the film that has come closest to Endgame’s speed, and has still not matched it.
