The Taylor Sheridan universe just got a whole lot bigger. The highly anticipated Yellowstone spinoff, Y: Marshals, is gearing up for its debut on CBS, and the cast is officially rounding into form. In a move that’s sure to thrill fans of the flagship series, several familiar faces will be returning to the fold, alongside a host of new talent ready to bring the gritty world of Montana law enforcement to life. Luke Grimes is set to reprise his role as Kayce Dutton, but he won’t be the only one carrying the Yellowstone legacy forward.

Just when you thought the Dutton saga couldn’t get more intense, Y: Marshals promises to take things to a whole new level. The series will follow Kayce as he trades his life on the ranch for a badge, joining an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. The official logline teases a high-stakes drama where “he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.” With a description like that, it’s clear that Y: Marshals will be a worthy addition to the Yellowstone canon.

Familiar Faces Return to the Fold

In a move that solidifies the connection between Y: Marshals and its predecessor, three beloved actors from Yellowstone are confirmed to be reprising their roles. Gil Birmingham will return as the formidable Tribal Chairman Thomas Rainwater, a character who has been a constant source of conflict and occasional alliance for the Dutton family. Birmingham’s nuanced portrayal of Rainwater has made him a fan favorite, and his presence in the new series suggests that the complex political landscape of Montana will continue to be a central theme.

Joining him is Mo Brings Plenty, who will once again play Mo, Rainwater’s loyal and often intimidating right-hand man. Mo has been a quiet but powerful force in Yellowstone, and his return hints at a continued storyline involving the Broken Rock Reservation. And in a move that will surely tug at the heartstrings of longtime viewers, Brecken Merrill is set to return as Tate Dutton, Kayce’s son. The father-son dynamic has been a cornerstone of Kayce’s character arc, and Merrill’s inclusion in Y: Marshals promises that this deeply personal storyline will continue to evolve.

But it’s not all familiar faces. Y: Marshals is also bringing in a fresh lineup of talent to populate its world. Arielle Kebbel, known for her roles in Rescue: Hi-Surf and Ballers, joins the cast as Belle, a fellow U.S. Marshal. Ash Santos, who has appeared in Pulse and Mayor of Kingstown, will play Andrea, another member of the elite unit. Rounding out the new Marshal team is Tatanka Means, who recently impressed audiences in Killers of the Flower Moon and Reservation Dogs. He will portray a character named Miles.

In a recurring role, veteran actor Brett Cullen (Apollo 13, Joker) will play Harry Gifford, the head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana. And as previously announced, Logan Marshall-Green will play Pete Calvin, a friend from Kayce’s military past. This impressive lineup of talent suggests that Y: Marshals is aiming for the same level of character-driven storytelling that made Yellowstone a cultural phenomenon.

The Yellowstone Universe Continues to Grow

The announcement of the Y: Marshals cast is a major step forward for the ever-expanding Yellowstone universe. With a mix of familiar faces and exciting new talent, the series is poised to be a ratings juggernaut for CBS. The creative team behind the show is a who’s who of television talent, with Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan serving as an executive producer. Spencer Hudnut will serve as showrunner, and Greg Yaitanes is set to direct the initial episode.

This isn’t the only Yellowstone spinoff in the works, either. A new series centered on Beth and Rip is also in development, with Oscar-nominee Annette Bening recently joining the cast. And for those who can’t get enough of the Dutton family history, a new prequel series, 1944, is also on the horizon for Paramount+.

With its powerhouse cast, high-stakes premise, and the creative force of Taylor Sheridan behind it, Y: Marshals is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated new shows of the 2025-2026 television season. Fans will be counting down the days until they can see Kayce Dutton back in action, this time on a whole new playing field.
