Our Take: The Show Finally Trusts Eris With Her Own Arc
Season 3 is the first stretch of Mushoku Tensei that gives Eris Greyrat a story that isn’t defined entirely by her relationship to Rudeus. Putting her through real, sustained sword training under Gal Farion — rather than having her show up already competent — is a small structural choice with a real payoff: it’s the first time the show has let a supporting lead grow on screen instead of off it.
The season opened to an 8.8/10 average on IMDb despite a review-bombing wave against its July 4, 2026 premiere, with 14% of users giving the first two episodes a single star — a sign the show still divides viewers even as the story itself matures.
The back half of the season leans harder into the isekai genre’s favorite trick — a flash-forward warning from a future version of the protagonist — and it works mainly because Rudeus’s domestic episodes earlier in the season (the prosthetic hand test, the birthday parties) made the stakes of losing that life land before the threat ever showed up.
