One book per season, which means you never have to read ahead to keep up
Season 1 is The Lightning Thief. Season 2 is The Sea of Monsters. Season 3, dated November 20, 2026 on Disney+, is The Titan’s Curse. That one-to-one cadence is the show’s defining production decision and the reason the episode list above is more useful than a plot summary: eight episodes cover one novel from its first page to its last, so every season starts clean and finishes a story rather than stopping mid-arc.
It also sets the register. Rick Riordan co-created the series with Jonathan E. Steinberg and has been openly involved in a way novelists usually are not, and the result is a TV-PG show with 32-to-47-minute episodes – short, bright, and built to be watched by a twelve-year-old and a parent at the same time. Sixteen aired episodes come to about ten and a half hours – two whole novels for roughly what one season of adult prestige fantasy costs you. Bear McCreary’s score is doing more heavy lifting than the budget is.
The one thing worth planning around is the gap. Season 1 finished on January 30, 2024 and season 2 did not arrive until December 10, 2025 – nearly two years – and season 3 lands ten months after that. If you are starting now you get two complete books back to back and then a wait, which is the right time to read ahead rather than to stop.
