What to watch alongside The Batman, and when Part II actually arrives
This one stands alone: it is not connected to the older DC films and not part of the rebooted DC Universe. Matt Reeves’s film opened in US theaters on March 4, 2022 and runs 176 minutes, which is close to three hours and the single most useful fact for planning an evening around it. It is a detective story first, and the first hour moves at the pace of one.
The one thing worth adding to the double bill is The Penguin, the HBO Max limited series that follows Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb in the weeks after the film. It is set inside this continuity rather than beside it, and it is on the same service, which makes it the natural next click when the credits roll.
Anyone hoping to time a rewatch to the sequel has room. The Batman: Part II is scheduled for US theaters on February 18, 2028 after several delays, with Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Farrell returning.
