Wait, Is Her Name Hongo or Nagaba?
Here’s the fun one. Netflix’s own English subtitle has Miyo say a name out loud: “Kimio Hongo?” But every English-language report of the announcement, Anime News Network’s included, calls the new character Kimio Nagaba. Two different surnames, one character.
The Japanese release clears most of this up. Anime Hack quotes it directly: Kimio is a woman who, after graduating from girls’ school, married into the Nagaba family — a house with deep ties to the military. She and Miyo were classmates back in elementary school, years before that marriage.
So the simplest explanation: Nagaba is her married name, and Hongo is the name Miyo knew her by. That isn’t confirmed, and it could just be a subtitle slip. Either way, search both names and you’ll find the same character.
TOKYO MX or TV Tokyo? Depends Who You Ask
Reports also disagree on where the special airs in Japan. Anime Hack quotes the Japanese release word for word as 「地上波最速放送はTOKYO MXほかで10月25日午後7時から」 — earliest terrestrial broadcast on TOKYO MX and others, 25 October from 7:00pm. Anime News Network’s English report says TV Tokyo and others at the same time.
The teaser has no station logo to settle it. The report quoting the Japanese wording says TOKYO MX, but check the official site before setting a reminder. The Netflix time isn’t in question.
The Teaser, Moment by Moment
The teaser opens on a confession and closes on a date card, and it cuts fast in between — roughly 40 scene changes in about 36 seconds of footage. That’s quick for a show this gentle.
“I… Love You, Sir!”
No logo, no warm-up. The very first shot is Miyo in a mustard kimono facing Kiyoka in black, with the subtitle “I… love you, sir!” Then a cut to Miyo, blushing. The teaser leads with the line the series has spent two seasons building toward.
A Sparrow, a House and the Return of Spring
Next comes a sparrow on a cherry-blossom branch, a Western-style house with a teal roof and a long glass conservatory, and a close-up of a flower hair ornament. Then a pink card sums up the whole mood in vertical Japanese, with an English translation underneath.
That flower ornament is worth a second look. An unseen someone holds a pink-and-white fabric kanzashi with pearl centres, with Miyo’s eye and beauty mark peeking in. It might tie into the “omajinai” — a charm or blessing — that the Japanese release says Kimio places on Miyo, but the teaser never connects the two.
Everyone Knows About the Marriage Now
The best shot in the teaser is a magazine spread, and it actually moves the story forward. The headline reads 「久堂清霞氏 結婚」 — “Mr. Kiyoka Kudo marries” — with a second line, 「お相手は斎森家のご息女」, “his partner is the daughter of the Saimori family.” A third block names him as head of the Kudo house.
The photo shows him in full military dress uniform, her in a Western evening gown and pearl choker with a hand on his arm. It’s a long way from the girl the series started with, and the subtitle over it — “There are all sorts of things written about your marriage” — hints the attention isn’t entirely welcome.
Somebody’s Teasing the Commander
A dark-haired officer in a braided tunic leans on a desk: “Must be nice to have a beautiful wife, Commander.” The teaser doesn’t say who he is. A quick cut to a hand passing something white, then a green tea bowl, wraps up the moment.
“Won’t You Call Me by My Name?”
Three lines land back to back: “Sir…” over Miyo close beside Kiyoka, then “Won’t you call me by my name?” over a close-up of Kiyoka, then “Like that one time.” The editing cuts back and forth between them, so it plays like Miyo speaks first and Kiyoka answers — though the teaser doesn’t make it certain who says what.
Wait, a Cooking Class?
A wide shot of fields and mountains, then the most unexpected image in the whole teaser: a kitchen with a brick oven, a chef in whites chopping cabbage, and a row of women holding coloured notebooks. It looks like a cooking class or demonstration, and it’s the only moment set outside the couple’s own world.
After that, two older women sit in a room lined with shoji screens. Neither is named.
A Gated House and a Familiar Name
A Western-style house sits behind an iron gate with a vintage car in the drive, as the “Kimio Hongo?” subtitle runs into Miyo’s close-up. Same house as earlier? Both have teal roofs, but the angles are too different to say.
Then a woman in a cream kimono with a green collar smiles over the line “I never expected to meet you here!”, followed by two women sitting on stools in a tall room with arched windows. She’s a new face, but the teaser doesn’t name her, so there’s no saying she’s Kimio, tempting as that is.
A Quiet Night and a Big Yes
“You said you loved me, didn’t you?” plays over Miyo and Kiyoka in profile. Then everything turns blue and quiet: Kiyoka at night with his hair down, and the two of them side by side on a veranda in pale robes, over the line “I believe you.”
The last bit of footage is Miyo in a doorway, beaming, with one word on screen: “Yes!” Then the logo, and that’s it.
Don’t Let the Runtime Fool You
The video runs 54.8 seconds, but the story is over at about 36. After that it’s the date card, the Netflix logo, and 12.5 seconds of a static subscribe screen. And that date card says “OCTOBER 25” with no year — the year comes from the press release.
What’s Actually New Here
The specials were announced back in November 2025, so their existence isn’t news. What this teaser adds is a release date, the first animated footage, a voice for the new character, a taste of the ending theme and four new locations. What it doesn’t add is much plot beyond a wedding on the horizon.

What the Teaser Doesn’t Show
There’s no wedding ceremony — no shiromuku, no shrine — despite three episodes built around the lead-up to one. There’s nothing supernatural: no Gift, no Grotesqueries, no fighting. And Kimio never gets a face: her name is spoken, but no shot tells you which character she is.
The wedding is coming, though, and the ending theme’s writer pretty much says so. Kashitarō Itō, the singer-songwriter behind “Prelude no Temae ni: ~for me&you~,” said in his comment published with the announcement that Miyo and Kiyoka’s long-held wish of finally being united is fulfilled, and that he couldn’t help but write the song as a celebration of it. Netflix just kept that out of the teaser.
There are also no episode titles, no year on the date card, no station logo and no title card for the ending theme. This is a mood piece with a date attached.
