Blue Box Season 2 key facts, from the August 26, 2026 main trailer and official reporting.

The whole gang is back

Per Anime News Network, Shōya Chiba is back as Taiki Inomata, our badminton lead, and Reina Ueda as Chinatsu Kano, the basketball ace a year above him. Akari Kitō (Hina Chono), Chiaki Kobayashi (Kyo Kasahara) and Yūma Uchida (Kengo Haryū) return too. The one newcomer is Yoshino Aoyama as Yumeka Kido, described elsewhere as Chinatsu’s estranged former teammate, and the trailer treats her as the season’s big complication.

It starts just like Season 1 did

Running feet in badminton shoes, then a credit for creator Kouji Miura, just like the first trailer. Taiki jokes with teammates and walks with Chinatsu past a childhood group photo. Then Chinatsu, alone, looking more troubled than she ever did in Season 1’s promos.

Meet the blonde rival

Early on, after a Tokyo skyline at dusk, we meet a blonde girl in school uniform. Her close-ups carry real weight, and she gets more screen time than any other new face. About a minute later she’s back mid-game in an “EIMEI” No. 10 jersey, under SoftBank Winter Cup signs. That’s Japan’s real national high school championship, so the stakes are high. Her name never appears, but the timing and ANN’s “estranged former teammate” description suggest she’s Yumeka Kido, now playing for a different school than Chinatsu.

Hold on, is Taiki yelling?

About halfway through, on a golden-hour street, a dark-haired boy in a teal-and-navy blazer (Taiki’s club colors) shouts at a dark-haired girl with a satchel who has half turned away. Season 1’s promos never showed a fight this openly. The boy is presumably Taiki, but the backlighting hides too much to tell whether the girl is Chinatsu or someone else.

‘I admired her. I wanted to catch up.’

Late in the trailer, two handwritten cards land back to back: “憧れていた” (“I admired [her]”) over the blonde player, then “追いつきたかった” (“I wanted to catch up [to her]”) over a sweat-soaked Taiki mid-training. Seconds later comes a hug between Taiki and the blonde girl, not Chinatsu. So Taiki’s own admiration for this rival, not just Chinatsu’s history with her, looks set to drive the drama.

Snow, and a text for Taiki

Near the end, we jump to snow, a clear leap forward in time. Then a readable phone screen: a chat addressed to “猪股大喜”, Taiki Inomata’s full name, saying “Once you’re back, could I have some of your time? There’s something I want to talk to you about.” We don’t see who sent it. Season 1 ended with Chinatsu having lived at the Inomata house because of her parents’ overseas transfer, so this could be a reconciliation setup, but the trailer doesn’t say.

What’s new here

It’s the first Season 2 promo to name Yoshino Aoyama as Yumeka Kido, show an open fight, reveal both theme songs, and jump to winter. The March 2026 and earlier teasers were all mood. This one is built around an actual complication.

What the trailer doesn’t show

Apart from Taiki’s name on that phone, nobody is named on screen, so who’s who above is our best read from hair, uniforms and continuity. We don’t learn who wins the Winter Cup game, who the blonde player is, what the street argument was about, or who texted Taiki. That’s a lot left for October 4.
