The DC Universe is expanding, and James Gunn is leading the charge. Here’s everything we know about the next wave of DC movies and shows after Peacemaker Season 2.

After a series of highs and lows, the DC Extended Universe is officially a thing of the past. Now, under the leadership of co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, the newly minted DC Universe is taking shape, and fans are eager to see what’s next. With the success of Superman (2025) and the conclusion of Peacemaker Season 2, the stage is set for a new era of DC storytelling.

In a recent interview, Gunn teased that there are “two really cool film scripts that I’m hoping to take to the next level,” sending fans into a frenzy of speculation [1]. While the identities of those two films remain a mystery, we have a pretty clear picture of the next few years of the DCU. So, what exactly is on the horizon? Let’s break it down.

The Confirmed DCU Movie Slate: Supergirl, Clayface, and Man of Tomorrow

While Gunn’s recent comments have us all guessing, three films have officially been announced with release dates, giving us a solid look at the immediate future of the DCU [2].

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – A Gritty Sci-Fi Epic

First up is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. Starring Milly Alcock, who made her debut in Superman, the film is being directed by Craig Gillespie (Cruella). The movie will be an adaptation of the acclaimed comic book series of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, which promises a grittier, more mature take on the character. We also know that Jason Momoa will be making an appearance as the intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo [2].

Clayface – A Body Horror Spectacle

Next, on September 11, 2026, we’re getting a movie centered on a classic Batman villain: Clayface. This is a bold and unexpected move for the DCU, and it’s one that has fans buzzing. The film is being described as a body horror spectacle, with a script from the master of horror himself, Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House). Tom Rhys Harries is set to star as the titular character, and with a budget of only $40 million, this could be a lean, mean, and terrifying addition to the DCU [4].

Man of Tomorrow – An Unlikely Team-Up

Finally, on July 9, 2027, we’ll see the return of David Corenswet’s Superman in Man of Tomorrow. While not a direct sequel to Superman, the film will continue the story of the Man of Steel and will see him team up with an unlikely ally: Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. The Peacemaker Season 2 finale is said to directly set up the events of this film, which will see the two adversaries join forces to take on an even bigger threat. Gunn himself is directing, so you know it’s going to be a wild ride [2].

The Future of the DCU: What’s in Development?

Beyond the confirmed slate, there are a number of other projects in various stages of development. These are the films that are a little further out, but no less exciting.

The Brave and the Bold – A New Batman and Robin

One of the most anticipated projects is The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce a new Batman to the DCU, alongside his son, Damian Wayne, as Robin. This will be the first time we’ve seen this father-son dynamic on the big screen, and it’s a story that’s ripe with potential. Andy Muschietti (The Flash) is rumored to be directing, and while no casting has been announced, the thought of a new Batman is enough to get any fan excited [4].

Wonder Woman’s Reboot and the Rise of a New Writer

Wonder Woman is also getting a reboot, with a new film in development from writer Ana Nogueira. Nogueira has quickly become a favorite at DC Studios, as she’s also penning the script for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and a Teen Titans movie. This new Wonder Woman film will be separate from the upcoming Paradise Lost series on HBO Max, and it’s a clear sign that DC is committed to giving the Amazonian princess the spotlight she deserves [4].

Swamp Thing, The Authority, and Other Mysteries

Rounding out the announced projects are Swamp Thing, a gothic horror film from director James Mangold (Logan), and The Authority, a film about a team of anti-heroes who are willing to do whatever it takes to save the world. There are also a number of other projects that have been rumored or hinted at, including a Bane and Deathstroke team-up movie and an animated Dynamic Duo film. It’s clear that the DCU is going to be a big, bold, and diverse place [4].

What About the Elseworlds?

It’s important to remember that not every DC movie will be part of the interconnected DCU. The “Elseworlds” label will be used for standalone projects that don’t fit into the main continuity. The first of these is The Batman: Part II, the sequel to Matt Reeves’ critically acclaimed 2022 film. Set to be released on October 1, 2027, the film will see Robert Pattinson return as the Dark Knight, and it’s sure to be another dark and gritty take on the iconic hero [4].
