Type-Moon and Aniplex dropped the first character trailer for Fate/EXTRA Record on September 9, 2026, and it’s all Nero Claudius, the remake’s playable Saber. Even better, Sakura Tange is back in the role she voiced in the 2010 PSP original. The remake lands January 28, 2027 on PS5, PS4, Switch, Switch 2 and PC.

The remake was first confirmed at a September 2026 PlayStation State of Play (our full State of Play roundup has the rest). This trailer, posted six days later on TYPE-MOON’s channel, is our first real look at it in motion.

Fate/EXTRA Record key facts, as confirmed in the September 9, 2026 character trailer and TYPE-MOON’s own listing.

What’s in the Trailer

No gameplay here. It’s a character showcase: embers, blurry sword swings, then a few lines from Nero, each one punctuated by a flash of her red-and-gold armor.

“Are You My Master?”

Nero asks it straight out early on. Soon after, she stands before a brown-haired character in a Moon Cell-uniform coat and blue ribbon, almost certainly the player’s Master. We never see their face clearly, and only Nero gets a name card.

She calls them “Praetor.” That’s not a Moon Cell rank. It’s Nero’s own nickname for her Master in the original Fate/EXTRA, so fans will hear it as a straight callback. Then: “A simple, passionate flame.”

Swords, Instruments and a Very Big Ego

Over a close shot of her gold epaulette and feathered trim, Nero declares: “I am the finest of swords, the greatest of instruments!”

Classic Nero. She has always billed herself as Rome’s greatest artist first and emperor second, and her Noble Phantasm is literally named for a theater she built to show off. Swapping “greatest artist” for “greatest of instruments” is a small tweak for a sword-swinging Servant, not a new take on her.

“What Do You Say, Praetor?”

A blade catches the light as Nero asks, “What do you say, Praetor? Are you ready for battle?” It’s a formal challenge, just like the original’s setup: you enter the Moon Cell Holy Grail War by contracting with a Servant and agreeing to fight.

The One Real Action Moment

Near the end, Nero drops into a battle stance over a magenta magic circle. “Between the two of us, nothing is impossible,” she says, then turns to the camera: “Let us fight on together until we win the Holy Grail!” A Digital Deluxe Edition card follows, listing a Servant/Player special outfits bundle, an arranged BGM pack, and a digital soundtrack and art book.

So What’s New?

This kicks off a character-trailer series, and Saber is “the first character to receive the honor,” per RPG Site’s report. So Archer (Emiya) and Caster (Tamamo), the other two Servants from the original, haven’t had their turn yet. It’s also the first confirmation that Tange is returning rather than being recast, and the first look at Nero’s rebuilt model on the remake’s engine, per Gematsu.

What We Still Haven’t Seen

No gameplay, UI, combat system or dungeon crawling. It’s all in-engine cinematics. No English dub either; TYPE-MOON’s listing only mentions Japanese voice-over. And neither edition has a price yet.

Wait, Who Is Nero Claudius?

Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus is the Fifth Roman Emperor, reimagined through the Fate franchise’s Moon Cell mythology. History calls her a tyrant; Fate writes her as a hedonist who genuinely loved Rome. She’s been the go-to Saber in Fate/EXTRA, Fate/EXTRA CCC, Fate/Extella and Fate/Grand Order, always calling herself the world’s greatest artist. Her Noble Phantasm, Aestus Domus Aurea, is a theater built from her own magical energy to show off her talent, per her Fate-wiki profile.
