Com2uS dropped the first Gachiakuta: Breakout trailer during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast on September 17, 2026, along with the game’s official title. It’s a survival action RPG built from Kei Urana’s manga, and the new footage is the first proof that the source material’s junk-powered combat actually works as a game.

It Already Has a New Name

The project was previously known only as “Gachiakuta: The Game.” Com2uS used the TGS slot to confirm the real title, Gachiakuta: Breakout, alongside the first gameplay footage and a 2027 launch window for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Com2uS’s own materials name four playable characters in this footage: Rudo, Enjin, Zanka and Riyo, all pulled straight from the manga’s cast. The trailer moves fast between them, but the character designs match their manga counterparts closely enough that fans of the source material should recognize everyone on sight.

Combat Leans Into the Manga’s Whole Gimmick

In the manga, Gachiakuta’s cast fight using discarded junk reforged into weapons called Vital Instruments, and the gameplay trailer clearly builds around that idea. Attacks come out as glowing streaks, whips and blades in different colors per character, with a lot of dashing and aerial repositioning between hits. It reads more like a stylish action RPG than a slow tactical fight, closer in spirit to the anime’s own frenetic fight choreography than to a turn-based adaptation.

The Boss Fight: Jabber

The trailer builds to a boss encounter against an enemy named Jabber, whose name gets its own neon purple reveal card mid-trailer. One extended sequence shows the cast taking on a towering, pale enemy in what looks like a multi-stage fight, with the characters dashing around its attacks rather than trading blows head-on. It’s the closest thing to a story beat in an otherwise ability-focused trailer.

What’s New Here

This is the game’s first gameplay footage of any kind. The only prior material was a teaser announcing the project existed, with no combat, no title and no platforms attached. Beyond the new name, this trailer is the first confirmation of the 2027 release window, the first look at how the manga’s trash-based power system translates into playable combat, and the first named boss fight.

What the Trailer Doesn’t Show

  • A release date more specific than “2027.” No month or quarter has been confirmed.
  • Any story or dialogue. The trailer is pure gameplay and combat, with no cutscenes or voiced lines.
  • The full roster. Only four playable characters are confirmed from this footage; the manga has a much larger cast still unaccounted for.
  • How exploration or the game’s world (the manga’s junk-filled Pit setting) actually works. Everything shown is combat, not traversal or environment.

Why the Timing Is a Little Strange

This game reveal lands while the source manga itself is on pause. Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta manga has been on hiatus since its August 5, 2026 chapter, with Kodansha confirming as recently as September 8 that the break is for research rather than any health or scheduling issue, and no return date has been set. The manga has run in Weekly Shōnen Magazine since February 2022 and sits at 19 collected volumes as of July 2026. A game and an ongoing anime adaptation from Studio Bones are keeping the franchise visible even with new chapters paused.
