New movies 2026 in the superhero, sci-fi and fantasy lane have already given us the biggest domestic hit ever in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and five big ones are still coming: Clayface (Oct. 23), Sunrise on the Reaping (Nov. 20), Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three (both Dec. 18), and Jumanji: Open World (Dec. 25).

This is our running list of every 2026 movie in our lane: superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy, and video game or anime adaptations. Horror gets its own page (our 2026 horror movie calendar), so the only scary one here is Clayface, because it’s a DC movie first. All dates are US theatrical dates.

As of October 17, 2026, every date below matches the studio’s current schedule, and the box office figures are Box Office Mojo’s running totals through October 16, shown as domestic / worldwide.

Spider-Man Alone Out-Earned Every 2025 Superhero Movie Combined

A scene from the official Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer

Here’s the number that sums up the year. In 2025, the four big superhero releases (Superman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*) made about $1.94 billion worldwide between them, per Box Office Mojo’s 2025 chart. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has made $2.51 billion on its own.

Add Supergirl and 2026 superhero movies are already at roughly $2.64 billion, and that’s before Clayface and Avengers: Doomsday open. Spidey also passed The Force Awakens to become the top-grossing movie ever in the US (here’s how that record fell).

The catch is that it’s all one movie. Supergirl finished at $126.5 million worldwide on a reported $170 million budget, and Masters of the Universe stalled at $113.8 million. The Mandalorian and Grogu ended at $345.6 million, the lowest of any live-action Star Wars film. 2026 didn’t bring the superhero audience back. It sent the whole audience to the few movies that felt unmissable. Five of the year’s top seven worldwide grossers on Box Office Mojo’s 2026 chart are in our lane: Spider-Man, The Odyssey, Toy Story 5, Mario and Project Hail Mary.

Brand New Day is renting on Prime Video and Apple TV as of Oct. 6. A Netflix date hasn’t been announced. Want the full MCU context? Here’s every MCU movie ranked.

Clayface Is the Last DC Movie of the Year

Clayface opens October 23, six weeks after its original Sept. 11 date. Warner Bros. moved it in February, which puts it right before Halloween. It’s a hard-R body horror movie from James Watkins starring Tom Rhys Harries, and the first reactions have been loud. Reviews land Oct. 21.

After Supergirl disappointed (it’s streaming on HBO Max now; our Supergirl watch guide has the details), Clayface is a much smaller bet. It reportedly cost around $40 million, so a modest opening still counts as a win. For the bigger picture, see every DC movie ranked.

December 18 Is Doomsday Versus Dune

Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three open the same day. Marvel’s official Doomsday page still lists December 18, the date it moved to in May 2025 after starting out on May 1, 2026. Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Doom, and the Russo brothers are back directing.

Dune: Part Three, Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune Messiah, is the finale of Villeneuve’s trilogy, and Imax tickets are already on sale.

Look at what ran away from that weekend. Ice Age: Boiling Point left Dec. 18 for Feb. 5, 2027. Shrek 5 left Dec. 23 for June 30, 2027. Even Jumanji: Open World slid from Dec. 11 to Christmas Day to stay out of the way. December went from crowded to a two-movie heavyweight fight, with Jumanji following a week later. Our bet: Doomsday wins the weekend, and Dune is the one people are still seeing in January.

Sunrise on the Reaping Brings Back Panem

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens November 20 in theaters and Imax. Joseph Zada plays a young Haymitch Abernathy in the 50th Games, with Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch. Francis Lawrence directs again. With Narnia gone, it’s the only big fantasy or sci-fi movie in our lane heading into Thanksgiving.

The Game Movies Had a Mixed Year

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was the first movie of 2026 to pass $1 billion and is on Peacock now. After that it gets bumpy. Mortal Kombat II stopped at $129.6 million worldwide (it’s on HBO Max). Resident Evil was the surprise of the fall with a franchise-record $60 million opening (our Resident Evil hub covers it). Street Fighter opened this weekend, and Deadline’s Saturday numbers put it near $31 million, below what Paramount hoped for.

It opens April 30, 2027 (here’s what we know).

Project Hail Mary is on Prime Video, Toy Story 5 and The Mandalorian and Grogu are on Disney+, Supergirl and Mortal Kombat II are on HBO Max, Masters of the Universe is on Prime Video, and Mario and Disclosure Day are on Peacock.
