The first DCU story, and the one to watch before Peacemaker
This is where the rebooted DC Universe actually starts. Seven episodes ran weekly on HBO Max from December 5, 2024 to January 9, 2025, and the premise is a direct consequence of the old order collapsing: with Congress shutting down Amanda Waller’s Task Force X for putting human convicts in the field, she builds a squad out of monsters instead. If you have watched our Peacemaker guide and wondered where Waller’s leash went, this is the answer.
The structure is the thing most episode lists miss. Each week pairs the present-day job in Pokolistan with one squad member’s origin told in flashback — the Bride in episode 2, G.I. Robot in 3, Weasel in 4, Dr. Phosphorus in 6, Nina Mazursky in 7. That makes it look skippable and it very much is not: the flashbacks are where the characterization lives, and the mission thread only makes sense with them.
A second season has been ordered and its first episode is listed as “Starry Night,” with no air date attached yet — which is why it shows as TBA above rather than as a guess. James Gunn wrote all seven of the episodes that exist, so the season holds one voice the whole way through.
