Start anywhere, because almost every episode is its own film
Forty episodes, four seasons, and no required reading. Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet built Strange New Worlds as a deliberate return to episodic Star Trek: the Enterprise arrives somewhere, something goes wrong, and the hour resolves. That is why the list above is more useful than a season summary would be – the episodes are not interchangeable, and picking by premise actually works here in a way it does not on a serialised show.
It also means the show keeps changing shape. Across four seasons it has done a courtroom drama, a full musical episode, a crossover with the animated Lower Decks, a 1960s holodeck murder mystery, an episode performed with puppets and an hour shot as a soap opera. Those are the ones people are sent to first, and none of them require the episode before. At 40 to 62 minutes each, the 38 episodes out so far come to roughly 32 hours.
On timing: season 4 is airing weekly on Thursdays right now, from July 23 to a finale expected September 24, 2026 – the last two dates are not confirmed by Paramount+ yet, which is why the list above flags them. A six-episode fifth and final season was ordered in June 2025, so the whole series will finish at 46 episodes.
