  1. S1.E1 ·

    Dog & Chainsaw

Denji is sixteen, crushed by a debt his dead father left behind, and paying it down as a freelance devil hunter for the yakuza alongside Pochita, a small chainsaw-snouted devil who is his only friend.

    Directed by Ryū Nakayama

  2. S1.E2 ·

    Arrival in Tokyo

Taken into Public Safety in Tokyo, Denji is handed to Aki Hayakawa for patrol duty. Aki wants him gone. Denji wants a reason to get out of bed, and settles on a spectacularly small one.

  3. S1.E3 ·

    Meowy's Whereabouts

Denji is partnered with Power, a blood fiend with no interest in teamwork. She offers him a deal: help her take her cat Meowy back from the Bat Devil, and she pays in the only currency he wants.

    Directed by Hironori Tanaka

  4. S1.E4 ·

    Rescue

The fight with the Bat Devil is over and something worse arrives to finish what is left of Denji. Aki turns up with a contract devil of his own, and afterward has to decide what to do with two liabilities.

    Directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara

  5. S1.E5 ·

    Gun Devil

Makima names the target: the Gun Devil, responsible for more than a million deaths. A five-person squad including Denji, Power, Himeno, Kobeni and Arai enters a hotel to collect a fragment of it.

  6. S1.E6 ·

    Kill Denji

The squad is stuck on the eighth floor with every clock stopped and no way down. The thing hunting them makes an offer the others are meant to refuse, and fear starts doing its own work.

    Directed by Shun Enokido

  7. S1.E7 ·

    The Taste of a Kiss

Denji goes at the Eternity Devil the only way he knows how, with no plan for how long it might take. Himeno watches him do it and starts thinking about what someone like him could be worth to Aki.

  8. S1.E8 ·

    Gunfire

Public Safety's hunters are attacked across Tokyo at once by ordinary civilians carrying guns they should not have. Denji is in a cafe, Aki and Himeno are nearby, and the coordination behind it is the point.

  9. S1.E9 ·

    From Kyoto

Denji is in pieces in the back of a van belonging to people who want him. Makima, elsewhere, gathers death-row inmates at a temple outside Kyoto for a job that has nothing to do with rescue.

  10. S1.E10 ·

    Bruised & Battered

The survivors count what is left of Special Division 4. Aki is asked whether he is staying on, and Denji and Power are handed to a veteran named Kishibe, whose training method is not a lecture.

    Directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara

  11. S1.E11 ·

    Mission Start

Kishibe's work has taken. Public Safety moves on a yakuza branch tied to the Gun Devil, with the division's non-human members clearing the basement while Aki and Denji head upstairs after the two who took Denji.

  12. S1.E12 ·

    Katana vs. Chainsaw

Aki faces the Ghost Devil with what Kishibe taught him, Denji takes Samurai Sword onto a train, and the raid's real purpose – another piece of the Gun Devil – is waiting at the end of it.

    Directed by Ryū Nakayama

Japanese broadcast dates. Crunchyroll’s US listing runs a day earlier throughout – October 11 to December 27, 2022 – because the simulcast lands before midnight in American time zones. Episodes 1 and 10 run 25 minutes; the rest run 23.

Twelve episodes, and the sequel is a film, not a season two

This is the shortest anime on our shelf, and the thing that continues it is in the wrong place. Chainsaw Man ran twelve episodes in late 2022 and stopped. MAPPA did not make a second cour; the story continued in Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, which picks up directly from episode 12 and lives on a completely separate Crunchyroll listing. A reader who finishes the series and goes looking for season 2 on the same page finds nothing, concludes the show was abandoned, and is wrong. Our report on the film’s release has the dates. A further sequel, Assassins Arc, was announced in December 2025 and has still not said whether it is a film or a season.

The twelve are also a genuinely odd shape for a shonen hit. Roughly the first third is a squalid comedy about a teenager whose stated life goal is embarrassing and whose actual problem is that nobody has ever fed him reliably; the middle is a horror set piece in a hotel corridor; the last three are a straight action serial. Kensuke Ushio’s score refuses to signpost which mode any given scene is in, and Ryū Nakayama directs the whole run as if the tonal whiplash were the point rather than a problem. It is the reason people either bounce off episode 3 or finish all twelve in a night.

Two practical notes. The dates in the rail above are the Japanese broadcast dates; Crunchyroll’s US listing shows each episode a day earlier, because the simulcast lands before midnight in American time zones and not because there are two versions. And the dub covers the whole run: every one of the twelve episodes is tagged Dub and Sub on the Crunchyroll listing, with Kikunosuke Toya and Ryan Colt Levy splitting Denji, which is not true of every simulcast on the service. If you want the source, our Chainsaw Man reading order maps the manga parts against the anime, and our character ranking is the argument people actually want to have afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I watch Chainsaw Man?

All twelve episodes stream on Crunchyroll in the US with a subscription, in Japanese with subtitles or in the English dub. Hulu has also carried the season.

How many episodes of Chainsaw Man are there?

Twelve. At about 23 minutes each that is a little under five hours – episodes 1 and 10 run 25 minutes.

Do I watch the Reze Arc movie after the series?

Yes. Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc continues directly from episode 12 and is a separate listing on Crunchyroll, not part of this series page.

Is there a Chainsaw Man season 2?

Not as a television season. The story continued in the Reze Arc film instead, and a further sequel, Chainsaw Man – Assassins Arc, was announced on December 21, 2025 without a stated release format – so it may be another film rather than a season.

Do I need to read the manga first?

No. The anime starts at chapter one and assumes nothing.
