Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live airs on Tuesday, 25 August 2026 at 8:00pm CEST / 7:00pm BST / 2:00pm EDT / 11:00am PDT, streaming free on The Game Awards’ YouTube and Twitch channels. The roughly two-hour showcase opens a convention that has sold out its entire floor for the first time ever.

When Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live starts
Opening Night Live runs on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, the day before the show floor opens to the public. A 30-minute pre-show starts half an hour ahead of the main broadcast, and the show itself runs roughly two hours.
| Region | Start time (main show) |
|---|---|
| US Pacific | 11:00am PDT |
| US Eastern | 2:00pm EDT |
| UK & Ireland | 7:00pm BST |
| Central Europe | 8:00pm CEST |
| Japan | 3:00am JST (Wednesday 26 August) |
| Eastern Australia | 4:00am AEST (Wednesday 26 August) |
Gamescom itself then runs 26–30 August 2026 at Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. You can watch Opening Night Live free on the official Game Awards YouTube channel or on Twitch — no ticket required.
Every game confirmed for Opening Night Live
These are the titles organisers and publishers have actually confirmed for the broadcast, rather than the ones fans expect. Video Games Chronicle’s 20 August report lists the bulk of them:
| Game | What is confirmed |
|---|---|
| Final Fantasy VII Revelation | First update since its Summer Game Fest reveal; director Naoki Hamaguchi appearing live |
| Gears of War: E-Day | Confirmed for the broadcast |
| The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past | First look at the new expansion |
| Game of Thrones: War for Westeros | Confirmed appearance |
| Ananta | NetEase’s open-world action game, previously Project Mugen |
| Metro 2039 | Confirmed for the broadcast |
| Mewgenics | Appearance with a live music performance |
| Silent Hill: Townfall | New trailer, per Konami’s own announcement |
The lineup is partly a paid placement — and Keighley has said so
Here is the thing almost no preview mentions. Host Geoff Keighley has been openly transparent that appearing in Opening Night Live is partly a commercial arrangement. In the same Video Games Chronicle report, he is quoted saying the games featured inside the broadcast are all partners of Gamescom, and drawing a distinction between “editorial placements” and “paid placements.”
That is worth holding onto while you read any “confirmed games” list, including ours. A slot in Opening Night Live is not a neutral ranking of the year’s most important games. It is a showcase that publishers buy into, which is why a mid-size title can get five minutes while something far more anticipated is absent entirely. Read the lineup as a marketing schedule, not a leaderboard.

Watch out for the recycled 2024 lineup
While researching this piece we repeatedly hit a widely-shared Geoff Keighley post listing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, Batman: Arkham Shadow and Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred as Opening Night Live confirmations. Every one of those is from Gamescom 2024, not 2026.
The post itself is genuine — it is simply two years old, and search engines happily surface it against 2026 queries because Keighley words these announcements almost identically every August. If you see Arkham Shadow or Black Ops 6 on a list headed “confirmed for ONL 2026,” check the date on the source before you get excited.
Why comic and anime fans should care this year
Konami’s slate is the strongest crossover with our usual territory. Its official Gamescom announcement (21 July 2026) confirms a new Silent Hill: Townfall trailer during Opening Night Live, plus a hands-on playable demo of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse at its booth in Hall 07.1.

Belmont’s Curse matters more to Netflix viewers than its marketing lets on. The game is set in Paris in 1499 and stars Rose Belmont — the daughter of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades. Those two are the leads of Netflix’s animated Castlevania series. The game is not an adaptation of the show and shares no continuity with it, but it picks up the same family one generation on, which makes it the closest thing to a sequel that audience is likely to get in playable form.
It is being developed by Evil Empire, the studio that handled years of Dead Cells updates, with support from Motion Twin, and it releases 15 October 2026 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows — marking the franchise’s 40th anniversary.

Silent Hill: Townfall, meanwhile, is set in the mid-1990s and follows Simon Ordell returning to the town of St. Amelia in Scotland. It is the follow-up act to Silent Hill f, which debuted at Gamescom 2025.
A sold-out floor is the real headline
For the first time in the event’s history, every square metre of exhibition space is booked — 233,000 gross square metres, which organisers compare to about 33 football pitches. More than 350,000 guests are expected across the four public days.
Gamescom co-organiser Felix Falk framed the sell-out as “a good indicator that the industry is preparing for new growth,” and said organisers want to give indie developers even more global visibility. Against a backdrop of widely-reported studio closures and layoffs across the games industry since 2023, a fully booked trade floor is a genuinely meaningful signal — arguably more so than any single trailer that airs on Tuesday.
